Railways: Ferrying the nation's future

Infrastructure is a major constraint in India and Taurian too was affected by these concerns. As the company has always done in the past, we took it upon ourselves to overcome the problem and created a whole new opportunity.

The delays due to poor infrastructure led to mounting freight costs and lower supply capacity. To overcome these hurdles, Taurian invested USD 8 Million to procure two Rakes (trains) to move their iron ore from the mines to the ports.

Each Rake has 58 wagons, with a capacity to carry 3700 MT of iron ore per trip. Two Rakes will ensure additional cargo movement of about 74000 MT to the port every month. This in turn, will add approximately 900,000 MT per year to the total export capacity.

Taurian has further got permission from Indian Railways to contribute two more rakes for dedicated ore movement to the port for the years 2006-2007. Such developments are full of promise and offer new opportunities for the company's growth.

Railway Siding

Under licence from India Railway Authorities, Taurian had constructed railway siding in Belkundi, in Orissa, in vicinity of its mining operations. Another railway siding at Durga Chowk, Haldia in West Bengal is under construction and likely to be operative in year 2008-09.

Own railway siding have considerably improved the movement of export cargo from operation sites to the port of shipment, resulting in saving of time and reduction in cost of logistics. The services at railway sidings are offered to other exporters of iron ore, creating additional revenue and profits for Taurian.
